"Approaching Silence" is a compilation of David Sylvian's rarest ambient installements-- "Ember Glance", a collaboration with Russell Mills, received brief release as a limited edition piece, whereas as far as I know, "Redemption: Approaching Silence", a collaboration with Robert Fripp /5(28).
  4. Vudorr says:
The "unofficial" subtitle of this CD is "music for multi media installations." All that to say that the songs on this release date back to and were used as part of Sylvian and Russell Mills' exhibit Ember Glance-The Permanence of Memory () and 's Redemption-Approaching Silence, which was done by Sylvian and Robert Fripp.
  5. Fenrizilkree says:
A restless progressive and inquisitive collaborator since the end of the extraordinary Japan in the early ’80s, exquisite London-born singer David Sylvian (né Batt) spent the first stage of his solo career discharging what remained of Japan’s dreamy, high-art pop explorations while infusing them with jazz and world musics on Brilliant Trees and paring it.
  6. Shakarisar says:
The answer is a resounding yes! Sylvian produces original and interesting ambient music. The selections are long ("Approaching Silence" is over 38 minutes long) yet never get boring. It is to Sylvian 's credit that he can keep the listener interested for that long with this genre of music.8/
